What doesn’t scare me these days? I’d put “worry” in the same category as “scare” as well.
Here are the top 4 things that have been keeping me up at night because they scare/ worry me.
I’ve also included specific steps I’m taking to address them.
1️⃣ My children falling ill (either from COVID or another disease):
I’m confident this is at the top of the list for most parents these days. I’ve been so incredibly lucky to have healthy children and because we’ve been blessed with good health, it makes me worry even more that something is “bound to happen”. I’m trying to remember that I can only control what I can control. We’re choosing to get my 6-year-old vaccinated. And every day, I’m focusing on doing the best I can do to get good food into their bodies and provide as much love as I possibly can to my three little souls.
2️⃣ What would happen to my children if something were to happen to us:
My husband recently traveled to Nashville. I’m not sure why, but I started worrying on that specific trip about what would happen if something happened to him. Or, worse, if something were to happen to me and him. Admittedly, we only had life insurance for me through my employment. So as soon as he was back, we signed him up for a life insurance plan. This is one “small” important step toward keeping a bit of that worry at arm’s length … knowing they’d be well protected if something were to happen.
3️⃣ I worry that I worry too much and I’m scared of too many things:
Do you know that phrase, “Worrying is like a rocking chair”? It gives you something to do, but it doesn’t get you anywhere.” I feel like I’m in a perpetual rocking chair. At the advice of my therapist, I now devote 15-20 minutes during the day to “worry time”. During the day, if something comes up that would make me worry, I jot it down and save it for “worry time”. During this time, I think about solutions for things that I’m worried about. (i.e. a few weeks ago I used the time to look up life insurance policies!)
4️⃣ At the end of each day, I worry I’m never a good enough mother to my children.
What scares you/ worries you these days? Do any of the above resonate with you? Let me know in the comments.
