Snow days simply don’t have the same excitement as they once did. ❄️

Remember snow days when you were young? I vividly remember having my eyes glued to the television screen, watching the town names slowly scroll by, waiting patiently for it to get to “N” for Needham. It felt like an eternity and our hometown hardly ever cancelled. Typically it was a two-hour delay which was more of a nuisance.
Today when we woke up to 14 inches of snow … I didn’t need to look at the news to see the towns scroll by. I knew full well everything was cancelled and that we wouldn’t have child care. I panicked a bit. I know so many of you are in the same spot. These last few days before the holiday break are truly “go time” at work. Deadlines to meet with no exception. 📌 And I had four separate meetings today with Officers of my company that I just simply could not miss.
So Chris and I radically prioritized our meetings and literally barely got through the day. I’m pretty sure all three kids were glued to screens for 7 hours and ate donuts and chips before anything relatively healthy went into their bodies. 🤦🏼♀️ I turned on my professional virtual background and plowed through meetings with a polite smile while I could practically hear plates crashing downstairs.
I would be lying if I told you I didn’t want to flee the house from work, the kids and our chaos and quietly drink wine in the snow while sitting numb on our stairs.
Today was hard. I am grateful to my coworkers who I felt comfortable enough to turn off my virtual background and welcome them into my snow day family chaos. Find those people. Find those coworkers. They are the ones who make this working mom life possible.
If this day sounds at all familiar, I am here to tell you you made through it. I always like to remind myself that no matter how hard the day might be, the benefit is that the clock keeps ticking and it will inevitably end. Sending virtual cheers to all of you for making it through this day. Homestretch to what I hope will be a little holiday break for most. ❤️
