Daycare Teacher Gifts – Tips & Recommendations

I’m not sure about you – but every year, I struggle a bit (ok A LOT) with what holidays gifts to buy for our day care/ preschool teachers and caregivers. I mean – how exactly does one go about wrapping up one million dollars that you don’t have as well as endless amounts of gratitude? Does it all fit in one box? These are true heroes – who, in my eyes, have the most important job in the WORLD, taking care of and nurturing our tiny humans throughout the day.

I was having a chat with our nanny this morning, who used to work in a day care, to ask her for the real “scoop” on what teachers enjoy the most around the holidays in terms of gifts. She gave a few great ideas to those who are struggling!:

  • Her favorite gift ever received? A scarf! She still wears it to this day
  • What about gift cards? Yes – teachers love gift cards – consider giving one to a local store/ restaurant/ coffee shop in the neighborhood near the day care/ school
  • Anything to avoid giving?: Teachers are always grateful for any gift … one note might be to avoid giving something that requires “work” (I’m looking at you, plant with specific instructions on when to be planted in the spring when the sun is at a 45 degree angle in the sky).
  • She also said that in places where you have a lot of “co-teachers” who support throughout the day, cookie platters, coffee carafes, etc. are always welcomed!

In addition to the gift ideas though, I want to tell you all her MOST important message. Although “everyone is different”, she said that you would be surprised how far a small written note of “thanks” goes amongst the teachers. In days of hurried drop offs and pick-ups, often times with emotional toddlers at your hip, or distracted minds thinking about what to make for dinner, this now makes sense to me. My husband and I talk ALL the time at home or when the kiddos are sleeping about how much we LOVE and appreciate our caregivers – but how often are we given the chance to tell them? So this was a great reflection for me to make it a point to accompany the “gift” with a note of thanks and #gratitude for all they do for our children. And PS this mug is sold out. I already checked.

“Sibling Sandwich!” Do you and your siblings “Sibling Sandwich!”

Do you and your siblings have a specific pose or “placements” when posing for pictures? My sisters and I have a *very* specific configuration. I have zero where it originated, but all I know is even today my oldest sister Brigid will call us all out if we aren’t in formation. Even at our ages, somethings never change! 😂 (Also, did you have a specific “seat” at the table growing up?)

Chris and I are trying to think of what to do with the members of this sibling sandwich today. With the colder weather, we are all climbing the walls a bit. Maybe we will bake turkey cookies? 🤷🏼‍♀️ What are you all up to today with your kiddos? Happy Sunday!

Anyone else have jazz hands like Lottie and is exc Anyone else have jazz hands like Lottie and is excited to “Gobble ‘Til You Wobble” this Thanksgiving??
👋🏻👋🏻🦃 🍂

I WISH this little lady would gobble, wobble and then SLEEP! Anyone who watched my IG stories recently knows that my once wonderful sleeper has started waking up multiple times in the middle of the night 😫 Ears? Teeth? Loneliness? Excitement for the holidays? Who knows! But I sure do miss the days back ~pre 2014 when I could get a full night of sleep!

Thank Goodness It’s Friday! ✨ ... There are Thank Goodness It’s Friday! ✨

... There are a few new faces around here, so I thought it’s always a good moment to re-introduce the “mom” behind “The Momming Worker” to all of you! Here’s some information about me!

👋🏻 My name is Erin – wife of 11 years to Chris ( @ckim1189 )and mom to Lucy (5), Teddy (3) and Lottie (19 months)

🗺 A proud Boston girl: I grew up in Needham, MA, went to @bostoncollege (where I met Chris) – after 11 years of living away (Los Angeles and Connecticut), life brought us full circle back in 2017 when we returned to Needham with our three kids! I love watching my children grow up in my hometown.

👩🏼‍💼I am an HR Leader at a Fortune 50 company where I have spent the last 9 years of my career! I love what I do, but most importantly, the people that I work with.

❤️Loves: coffee (I mourn the time of year when PSL is no longer offered at @starbucks ), wine, singing (my husband and I met in our college a cappella group @bcdynamics ), Schitts Creek, Law & Order SVU and Dateline NBC

😖Pet peeves: close talkers and close walkers (perhaps COVID solved for these??)

🏝 Favorite vacation spot: Aruba

🎬 Favorite Hollywood Moment: Being interviewed by Jay Leno!

🏰 Favorite Disney ride: Haunted Mansion

👩🏼‍💻Why I created the momming worker: About three years ago, I found myself feeling very lonely and vulnerable as a working mom and wanted to find an outlet to speak authentically about my highs and lows in the hope that it would make others not feel quite as lonely. From there - The Momming Worker was born and here I am, everyone!

👇🏻 Do we have anything in common? Tell me something about you in the comments! Happy weekend!

I just thought Lucy’s 2019 school picture might I just thought Lucy’s 2019 school picture might make everyone’s Wednesday that much better!

I am ordering her school pictures today to give to my family along with holiday gifts and I was reminded of this epic snapshot from last year. 😂

Do you give pictures of your children to your family as gifts? Or are my parents the only ones with a house that looks like a photography studio? 🖼 😉

“A sibling is the lens through which you see you “A sibling is the lens through which you see your childhood.”

Our nanny, @millerhurley , took Teddy and Lottie for a brisk walk today to enjoy some of the fresh air. 💨 ❄️ She sent me these snapshots and my heart burst when I saw them appear on my phone in between conference calls.

These two little souls are becoming fast friends - whether Teddy wants to admit it or not. 😉 Something tells me they will look out and protect each other always. ❤️

In many ways, the quarantine has made the bonds between our kiddos a bit stronger. I can’t tell if it’s because they are getting older and have similar interests or if it’s because they don’t have the opportunity to play with other friends or go on play dates. For those who may have more than one child in your house, have you found your kids getting along more or less these days?

Back in July, I had posted two pictures of me – Back in July, I had posted two pictures of me – one was a preppy, put together mama with a full face of make-up and hair done 💁🏼‍♀️, wearing Tory Burch espadrilles with my favorite “splurge” work bag hanging off my shoulder. The “swipe left” picture was a bit more of a realistic depiction – showing me with a high bun 👱🏻‍♀️ and headband while wearing comfy pants and my favorite @lifeisgoodco t-shirt about apple pie. 🥧 Four months later, as you can see from this picture, I am still rockin’ this shirt, now at least a bit more seasonally appropriate. 😉 Amidst a sea of uncertainty, there is something comforting about consistency. And if nothing else, I love finding little moments of consistency.

Twelve years ago I had my first Thanksgiving away from my parents. 🦃🍂Chris and I were newly engaged, living in a tiny studio apartment in Los Angeles. I must have called my mother 26 times that day, nervously asking questions about how to prepare a turkey and her famous apple pie, wanting to make that first Thanksgiving together as perfect as possible. Now, twelve years later, married with three kids and back on the east coast, I am facing another Thanksgiving away from my parents, given the current COVID environment. But I will no doubt place 26 calls to my mom with the same questions about the recipes and turkey preparation. Like I said, if nothing else, I am consistent. 😉

What are YOU baking for Thanksgiving?? (Any other apple pie lovers out there??)
